Sudan’s Resistance Committees (RCs) have been at the forefront of the country’s revolutionary struggle, yet their ability to shape political transitions has been undermined by both external pressures and internal challenges. Political parties and professional organisations distanced themselves from the RCs, leaving them to shoulder the resistance alone. Meanwhile, internal structural weaknesses, ideological divisions, and legitimacy concerns further hindered their ability to enact lasting change.

This critical reflection examines these obstacles and highlights key lessons to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and ensure the RCs’ legacy remains a force for future political transformation in Sudan.
