Research Update No. 6 – August 2021

This edition of the CSF Research Update brings together research on gender-based violence, youth perspectives on Sudan’s transition, peace processes, and women’s political participation.

• Gender-Based Violence in Sudan – The first nationwide qualitative study on gender-based violence, capturing the voices and experiences of women and girls across Sudan.
• Sudanese Youth and the Transition – A report on youth perceptions of Sudan’s democratic transition, highlighting their optimism, concerns, and expectations for political engagement.
• Reassessing Peace Processes in Sudan – A study on the structural weaknesses of past peace agreements and lessons for designing more sustainable peace efforts.
• Darfurian Mobility and Regional Dynamics – Analysis of how Darfurian rebel groups and civilians navigate displacement, cross-border smuggling, and asylum routes in Libya and beyond.
• Women’s Political Participation – A series of reports examining the historical and contemporary roles of Sudanese women in politics, the impact of legal and policy frameworks, and the structural barriers to greater inclusion.
• Patriarchy, Politics, and Women’s Activism – A briefing on how women activists continue to push for inclusion in Sudan’s transition despite political marginalisation.

This research provides critical perspectives for policymakers, aid actors, and analysts working on gender equality, youth engagement, and conflict resolution in Sudan.
