Breaking the bank – how military control of the economy obstructs democracy in Sudan

This report provides evidence-based analysis of state-controlled enterprises and their ownership structures, revealing how military officials and their associates have used these entities to enrich themselves and maintain power. The report also includes case studies that illustrate the ways in which military control of the economy has undermined democratic institutions and processes. The authors conclude with recommendations for increasing transparency and accountability in Sudan’s economy, including measures to improve corporate governance and combat corruption. Overall, the report highlights the urgent need for reform in Sudan’s economic and political systems inetn order to promote democracy and stability.
