Local peace agreement in Abyei: achievements, challenges and opportunities

The Local Peace Agreement in Abyei was signed in 2016 after a series of meetings between Ngok Dinka and Misseriya chiefs, with the help of Concordis, an international NGO. The agreement established a Joint Community Peace Committee and a common market, which have contributed to a reduction in violence and an increase in economic activity. However, the agreement also faced challenges such as capacity building, security, and political will. The document recommends that the international community support local peacebuilding efforts and address the underlying political and economic issues in Abyei.
